WEALTH

GOD GIVES GOOD LOANS. WE MUST MAKE GOOD INVESTMENTS

In the parable of the faithful and unfaithful servant, Christ praised the first because he was given a loan of ten and he made ten more. A second was loaned five and earned five more. A third was given one and bore no interest. And Christ asked why he bore no profit to what belonged to God, for the loans belong to God and are not ours.

And the servant answered that he buried it in the ground. This means he wasted God's loans in the enjoyment of earthly pleasures in the pit of lasciviousness.

St. Ambrose (PL 15, 1792)
