LEARN FROM ME The
message of the teaching of Christ is humility: "Learn from Me for I am
meek and humble of heart." And so, the preacher of Christ must be
humble.
So, Christ instructs His teachers not to
allow themselves to be called master or to love seats of honor and things of
that kind. For the teacher who wants these things shows signs contrary to
humility.
And, knowing man's propensity to be
exalted, Christ gives us the right way to do it: "Whoever wants to be
greater than the rest must first become the servant of all." The desire
to be served is Pharisaical; the desire to serve is from God.
In aspiring for high offices, man tends to
desire the honor but not the labor. Those who constantly look for high
positions are people who want to exalt themselves.
Anyone, therefore, who wants to be Christ's
disciple, must hasten to learn the lesson Christ professed to teach, for a
perfect disciple must be like his master. And Christ taught and showed
humility first and foremost; other virtues, too, but humility first and
foremost.
