THE HATRED OF
SATAN
Satan hates us from the
moment of our being and his opposition to us is as early as his
hatred. His violence is too active that he cannot lay still and
dormant without putting himself forth in all his mischievous
hostility.
Satan hates us enough as
men, but much more as believers. He maligns us for the privileges of
our creation, but much more for the mercies of our redemption. And
as soon as ever we list ourselves in the service of Christ for our
salvation, he bids present defiance of us and proclaims perpetual
war against us, which he will never be wanting to carry on with all
the force, art and industry that malice, bounded within the limits
of created power, can reach unto.
Satan usually knows what is in your house and in your
closet. Though he has no key to your heart, yet he can stand
in the next room to it, and lightly hear what is whispered there. He
hunts the Christian by the scent of his own feet and if once he does
smell which way your heart inclines, he knows how to take the hint.
An inclination towards the desires of the flesh and he is there to
push and realize your sinful desires.
