DISINTEGRATION WITHIN THE CHURCH
Several factors contributed to the
disintegration of the Catholic Church. One of them is the
growth of doubt which is the disturbance and uncertainty on what had
once been certain doctrines believed in unity by all Catholics.
Scientific discovery that attempted to
explain beliefs disturbed man's mind, like the unproven and
unscientific statement that man evolved from lower forms of
animals and how the universe began. Add to this the corruption
among the clergy that turned the faithful away from the sacraments,
making the powers of the sacraments a mere illusion. By their
behavior in church, most showed they don't believe in the Real
Presence.
Total ignorance of the Tradition of the
Church by the clergy made them speak with uncertainty and their
not-too-well-informed human reasoning worsened the situation.
Worldly and scientific reasoning became more attractive than
clerical knowledge not based on tradition.
The ignorance of Tradition by the
clergy weakened the structure of the Catholic Church. Because
the clergy was uncertain, the faithful began to doubt. In the
early Church, the Christians were so sure of their beliefs that they were
willing to die for it. Today, Christians are so uncertain,
they would not give up anything for their religion.
