WEALTH

THE SIN OF THE RICH

The rich usually imagine that if they do not steal from the poor they are free from sin. The sin of the rich is that they do not share their abundance with the poor. In fact, not to share one's abundance with the poor is a form of robbery.

All wealth comes from God; and God showered the world with wealth not just for a few people but for everyone.

Look at the things around us: the succulent fruits, the trees and bushes, the fertile soil that yields rich harvest...It is God who gave growth to all these products. Certainly, God did this not just for the sake of one or a few. He did it to benefit everyone. The duty of the rich is to share the harvest with those who work with him and to all who are in need.

St. John Chrysostom
