REMOVING ANGER

How shall we do this? By reflecting on our own sins and how much we have to answer for to God. By reflecting that, while we are displeasing God, we are delighting Satan.

Wouldest thou be revengeful? Let it be then on Satan. For this very purpose, God has armed us with anger, not that we should thrust the sword against our own bodies, but that we should plunge the whole blade in the breast of Satan. There bury it, hilt and all, and never draw it out again.

And this we shall do by being merciful to ourselves, and by being peaceably disposed one to another. Perish money; perish glory and reputation, and whatever else creates unholy anger.

St. John Chrysostom
