ALOYSIUS
GONZAGA
He was born
into a powerful Italian family during a period of great violence and
licentiousness. Aloysius turned his back from the spirit of his times with
vehemence and practiced extreme austerity and sacrifice. He joined the
Jesuit order and died while ministering to plague victims. He received the
last rites from the great St. Robert Bellarmine, who later testified to his
holiness.
