WE ARE
WRETCHED
We cannot dwell
upon the conduct of the Jews without being amazed at how these
people had waited for God for four thousand years and, yet, when He
came, they completely missed him.
At least the Jews had this small
excuse in that they had a wrong concept of the Christ as an earthly
king. If only they had a right idea of Him as a God, they would
never have killed Him.
But what is our excuse? We have the
right concept of Him and yet receive Him with coldness and contempt.
Oh yes, we believe that Christ came to earth . . . and we are right.
We believe in the convincing proofs of His divinity . . . and we are
right. We all believe that Christ is God, Man and our Model. But,
tell me, with all this, what homage do you really pay Him? Does your
conduct conform to your belief?
We are more blameworthy than the
Jews. We treat the Words of Christ the way the Jews treated the
person of Christ. Just as the Jews rejected Christ, we reject the
teachings of Christ that do not suit us.
