THE DEVIL

GOD AND SATAN

In the Book of Job, Satan is said to have come before the Lord, but not that he saw the Lord; for he came to be seen and not to see.

He was in the Lord's sight; as when a blind man stands in the sun, he is himself bathed in the rays of light, yet sees nothing of the light itself by which he is illumined.

So, in like manner, Satan also appeared before the Lord among the angels, and the Lord, who by the look penetrates all objects, beheld the impure spirit, who saw not Him.
