CATHOLICISM MIXED WITH LEGENDS
The teachings of the Catholic Church
have remained clear and distinct and well-founded. But the men
of the Church, especially the clergy, have added legends around the
truths. These legends are referred to as false history or
false science. (It is tragic that today we are filled with
more unscientific science than with true science.)
Legends are not so bad; they are
essentially parables. They are stories told, not as true
history but, as a symbol. False history and false science are
terrible evils. Legends, in fact, add beauty and humor which
are entertaining; they become harmful when they are taken for false
history.
And today, Christians tend to base
their faith on legends, usually local legends, being ignorant of the
Tradition of the Church. A little legend mixed with the truth
is not so bad; but a little legend with no admixture of truth or an
excess of legend can be disastrous. Most objections to the
Catholic Church are objections towards the legends in the Church.
Tragically, legends have been
considered as truth and truth as legendary.
