FOR BISHOPS

TRAITS OF A GOOD SHEPHERD

Press forward so that souls may be saved. Live up to the demands of your office by unceasing care in your practical and spiritual duties. Be preoccupied about unity.

Find time for unceasing prayer. Pray for wisdom. Be wakeful and watchful.

There is no reward in liking good pupils. The real task is by mildness to bring to obedience the ones who plague you.

Your are flesh and blood: do what you can see. For what you cannot see, pray that it may be revealed to you.

there are bishops who speak well but teach heresies. Do not let them disturb you but stand firm.

Do not neglect the widows. After God, you are their guardian. Let nothing be done without your consent. And do nothing without the consent of God.

St. Ignatius of Antioch

(St. Ignatius of Antioch was purportedly the child that Christ took into His arms; Ignatius was appointed Bishop by St. Peter, himself)
